I think Reading Corps is pretty special because sustained consistency in tutoring can be rare. It’s the individual, targeted interventions that make the difference.

Kimmy Gaul – S.C. Johnson Elementary

After living and teaching in Cambodia for three years, Kimmy was looking for a nice transition back into the states. Ideally, she wanted to continue working with students and get experience in an American school. Luckily, Reading Corps checked off all the boxes and Kimmy became a tutor!

Kimmy takes pride in not only improving students’ literacy skills, but creating relationships as well. She has learned that the two go hand in hand. By building up their confidence and trust, her students are now better equipped to take on the challenge of becoming better readers.

I learned English through one-on-one tutoring – I know it helped me. Individual tutoring sessions are often better for learners.
